Mehdi, year-2 Ph.D. student, presented his research work on EMG Processor in the postgraduate research seminar on 13 December 2019. This session was chaired by Dr. Ray Cheung and organised by the Department of Electrical Engineering of the City University of Hong Kong.
“Reconfigurable Computing and Hardware Acceleration in Health Informatics”- a book chapter by Dr. Ray C.C. Cheung and Mehdi Hasan Chowdhury got accepted in a book to be published by Springer-Verlag, Germany. The title of the book is “Signal Processing Techniques for Computational Health Informatics”.
Second-year PhD student, Mehdi presented the research work titled “Point-of-Care EMG Processor for the Differential Diagnosis of Neuropathy and Myopathy” in IEEE-NIH Healthcare Innovations and Point of Care Technologies Conference at Maryland, USA. This is one of the flagship conferences arranged by IEEE EMBS which provides a strategic forum for clinicians, industry experts, innovation experts and researchers.
To help Ph.D./MPhil students cope with numerous deadlines and different obligations, the EE department of CityU organised a workshop on stress management on 28 October 2019. In this event, Dr. Ray Cheung (along with three fellow speakers) shared how to manage the stress for an academic study.

Very good meeting with Dr Alfred Ng, BEng from Imperial College, PhD from MIT. Now he is working as Suga Electronics CTO, and CityU EE Departmental advisor. Thank you for the nice sharing both in academy and industry.
Second-year PhD student Mehdi Hasan Chowdhury’s paper “Reconfigurable Architecture for Multi-lead ECG Signal Compression with High-frequency Noise Reduction” is published in the Scientific Reports, a journal of the Nature Research family. Mehdi’s research interests include biosignal processing and reconfigurable computing.
Prof. Mencer has visited the bi-weekly research team meeting today, and provided valuable advice to PhD, Master, and Final year project students. He also introduced the bonding, the academic family tree, between CALAS and Prof. Galileo Galilei, the father of modern physics. http://maxeler.com/
