News and Announcements

We warmly welcome Muhammad Ashraf to our team CALAS, who joins CityU as a PhD student. Ashraf is from Egypt.

Mr. Muhammad Ashraf received the B.Sc. degree in Electrical Engineering from Minia university faculty of engineering, Egypt, in 2017. He worked as a teaching assistant for two years and is on leave from the Electrical Engineering department at Minia University, Egypt. He is now a Ph.D. student in the Department of Electrical Engineering, the City University of Hong Kong under the supervision of Professor Hong Yan and Dr. Ray C. C. Cheung.

Dr. Ray got successfully funded HK$1.44 Million by the Gifted Education Fund, Education Bureau for the programme “AIoT Coding and Engineering Skills Education for Gifted Students”, which aims to equip gifted students with the knowledge and hands-on coding ability in AI and IoT.  Xilinx will offer Professional Xilinx Engineer Mentorship support as well as HK$10,000 scholarship to the programme. Congratulations, Dr. Ray!

Many congratulations to Sanka on his paper titled “Efficient High-Performance FPGA-Redis Hybrid NoSQL Caching System for Blockchain Scalability” acceptance in Computer Communications (Impact Factor: 2.816).

Dr. Ray Cheung has joined the program committee team of Applied Reconfigurable Computing (ARC) 2021. FYI: the website of the Applied Reconfigurable Computing is attached HERE.

Congrats Mehdi. Journal paper submission to Electronics “FPGA-based Neuron Activity Extraction Unit for Wireless Neural Interface” got accepted. It is joint work with our active collaboration with USC.

“Reconfigurable Computing and Hardware Acceleration in Health Informatics”- a book chapter by Dr. Ray and Mehdi is published in a book by Springer International Publishing, Switzerland. The title of the book is “Signal Processing Techniques for Computational Health Informatics”. This book covers a comprehensive and representative range of signal processing techniques used in biomedical applications, including bio-signal origin and dynamics, sensors used for data acquisition, artefact and noise removal techniques, feature extraction techniques in the time, frequency, time-frequency and complexity domain, and image processing techniques in different image modalities.
