The International Conference on Field-Programmable Technology(FPT’19) will be organized in Tian Jin, Dr. Ray holds the post of Co-Chairs with the other four professors.

The result of EE Outstanding Teacher Awards 2018/19 has been released, around 38% of students voted for EE Outstanding Teacher Awards this year according to teachers’ effective and high-quality teaching. Dr. Ray received the level4 teaching courses award. Congratulations to Dr. Ray.

Congratulations to our No. 11 doctoral student Liu Yao who finished his Ph.D. thesis oral defense successfully, also thanks for the valuable comments from the panel professors.

Prof. Nirwan Ansari presents a speech about Drone-assisted Mobile Edge Computing to our department. During the seminar Pro. Nirwan illustrates some challenges caused by drone-based communication and some corresponding methodologies to address those issues respectively. All of CALAS members attend this seminar and discuss related questions with Prof. Nirwan. Prof. Zukerman also attends this seminar and gives many valuable comments to this seminar.

Nirwan Ansari is Distinguished Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the New Jersey Institute of
Technology (NJIT). He has also been a visiting (chair) professor at several universities. Professor Ansari authored Green Mobile Networks: A Networking Perspective (IEEE-Wiley, 2017) with T. Han, and co-authored two other books. He has also (co-)authored more than 550 technical publications, over 250 published in widely cited journals/magazines.

A total of 58 posters (a record high!) were submitted and presented at year’s EE Student Research Symposium held this Tuesday (26 February 2019). And 8 students obtained the best student presenter awards with 13.7% acceptance rate.  Our Ph.D. candidate Mr. XU Zhe got the award in  Computer Engineering & Control Systems track. Congratulations!

Dr Ray Cheung and his PhD student, Mr Abdurrashid Ibrahim SANKA, have won the Best Student Paper Award at the IEEE 26th International Conference on Systems Engineering (ICSEng 2018). The winning paper is titled “Efficient High Performance FPGA based NoSQL Caching System for Blockchain Scalability and Throughput Improvement”.

The Conference was jointly organized on a rotational basis among three institutions, University of Nevada, Las Vegas, USA, Wroclaw University of Technology, Poland, and Coventry University, UK, which provided a high-level forum for scholars, researchers and engineers from all over the world to share their views, research achievements, explore the hot issues and exchange the new experiences and technologies in the fields of Systems Engineering.

Two of our EE 2018 graduates won the Merit Prize of HKEIA Innovation & Technology Project Competition Award 2018.

Jointly organized by The Hong Kong Electronic Industries Association (HKEIA) and Hong Kong Electronic Industries Association Education Foundation (HKEIAEF), the Award is designed to recognize and reward students with outstanding final year projects which demonstrate excellence in technology and innovation.

Dr. Ray is appointed as a TPC member in the program committee of ARC2019 (15th International Symposium on Applied Reconfigurable Computing). Congratulations!

Nice meeting with Matthew, the director from Huawei, and he shares the information about new chip from Hisilicon and discusses with members about research. A further group meeting will be held in Huawei Hong Kong branch.
